Inclusive Connectivity: The Future of Regulation

The 19th Global Symposium for Regulators (GSR) organized by ITU, in collaboration with the Government of Vanuatu took place from 9-12 July 2019 in Port Vila, Vanuatu, under the theme: Inclusive Connectivity: The Future of Regulation.
 
Since its inception in 2000, GSR has earned a reputation as the global annual venue for ICT regulators to share their views on the most pressing regulatory matters. The meeting also fosters a dynamic high-level dialogue among ICT regulators and key stakeholders from around the world, to share experiences, knowledge and collaborate on major issues facing the ICT sector.
 
GSR-19 discussions identified means to bring affordable, safe, secure and trusted connectivity and online access and use to people everywhere. The sessions addressed digital strategies and policies; infrastructure regulation; innovative investment and financing mechanisms, trust and confidence in a data driven economy; the need for spectrum; preparing for 5G and the changing consumer role.

Broadband Commission Special Session

For the first time, the Broadband Commission organized a special session, the Leadership Debate: Getting the Next 3.7 Billion Online, on 10 July 2019 to examine the role of collaboration in getting the offline population online, including the need for inclusive people-centered approaches and innovative investment models for affordable and secured connectivity.
