On 2 April 2012, the Broadband Commission for Digital Development met in Ohrid, Macedonia at the invitation of H.E. Ivo Ivanovski, Minister of Information Society, Macedonia. 

The meeting was chaired by Mr Carlos Slim Helú, President of the Carlos Slim Foundation and H.E. Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda; and featured interventions from Macedonian President H.E. Gjorge Ivanov and Prime Minister H.E. Nikola Gruevski. ​

The event assembled key decision makers from government, the private sector and academia to brainstorm solutions for accelerating broadband rollout in the region. In addition, Commissioners discussed plans for outreach at other major events in 2012. These included plans for a call to action from the Broadband Commission to the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro in June, and a message to the meeting of the G20 in Mexico in July. Discussion on follow-up of the Broadband Challenge and Targets issued by the Commission in October 2011 was also be prompted. ​​ 

Broadband Commission names eight new Commissioners – Leaders from government and industry will bring fresh impetus to global campaign for ‘broadband for all’.
