The 2017 Spring Meeting of the Broadband Commission was held in Hong Kong on March 15-17 at the invitation of Ms Sun Yafang, Chairwoman of Huawei Technologies.

During the three-day event Commissioners had a chance to attend onsite sessions of the four Broadband Commission Working Groups on Wednesday 15th (Education; Digital Gender Divide; Digitalization Scorecards; Technologies in Space and the Upper-Atmosphere), as well as the full-day meeting of the Commission on Thursday 16th.

The Working Group on the Digital Gender Divide chaired by GSMA and co-chaired by UNESCO launched its final report with a set of specific recommendations to address barriers to women’s access and use of the Internet for all stakeholders involved – from policy makers, private sector and NGOs to Intergovernmental organizations and academia.

During the main plenary of the Commission, the Commissioners and invited Special Guests discussed how broadband networks, innovative services and applications are delivering results for sustainable economic growth, inclusive social development to reduce the digital gender gap, and leveraging ICTs for environmental protection.
